Eliza's 4th Birthday!

Eliza, Eliza, Eliza. I should write a song about her! It would be a number one hit just like her little personality. Or should I say BIG and rambunctious personality? When she's supposed to say no, she says yes. When she's supposed to say hi, she says bye. When she's supposed to cry, she laughs instead and when she's supposed to say yes, she says no! Mike and I play a lot of mind tricks on Eliza to get her to do what we need her to do, but she outsmarts us most of the time. Eliza does not let anyone decide for her and girlfriend has a mind of her own! Who runs the world? Eliza!

Eliza does not hold still from the moment she wakes up in the morning until the moment she falls asleep. She literally wiggles in her bed until the moment she falls asleep. I have learned that if I lay next to her for her nap, I "let" her play with my hair and it helps her to fall asleep more quickly. Win win! She loves to sit on your lap, but be prepared for the wiggles, squirming and wrestling while she "sits" there. Anyone that knows Eliza will tell you how loud she is, but she doesn't like loud music or the tv too loud either. Maybe she doesn't like the competition?

I hope I don't sound like I'm complaining because Eliza is everyone's favorite. She takes a little extra energy from me, but I wouldn't change a single thing about that perfect little girl! She has so much spunk and charm and love in that little body of hers! She tells me all day long how wonderful and beautiful I am and will not let me step foot out the door until she gets as many hugs and kisses sufficient enough for her. Walking down the hallway at church, people are fighting for Eliza's attention, but she'll only give it to you if she feels like it. And everyone loves it because if you can get some love from Eliza, it is 100% genuine.

Eliza is absolutely hilarious and SMART! She will have the life she wants and she won't ever settle for anything less. A person only 4 years old, I'd say she is one special girl! Her kind baby blue eyes, warm rosy chubby freckled cheeks and bouncy Shirley Temple ringlets are one of the many things I never want to forget about my sweet growing 4 year old little girl.

Eliza woke up to her gifts and even a cute note and dollar from Janie...

She's getting so big! And that hair is a beast to comb through in the morning...
Starting the day off right at Dunford Bakery for some doughnuts...
She loved picking them all out and putting them in the box like a big girl...

Off to get her ears pierced. She was so brave!...
And there it is! It startled her, but she didn't even shed a tear...
 Adorable...
Then she wanted to go to Scheel's for a ride on the Ferris Wheel...
She loved the alone time with Mom and Dad...
 Happiest day, sweetheart...
She was spoiled at Grandma and Grandpa Bennion's house too, but was a little embarrassed when we were singing to her. It was adorable...

Eliza and I read a book together before every nap. My favorite one that we read is a book called, "I Like Myself" by Karen Beaumont. It says,

I like myself! I'm glad I'm me.
There's no one else I'd rather be.
I like my eyes, my ears, my nose.
I like my fingers and my toes.
I like me wild. I like me tame.
I like me different and the same.
I like me fast. I like me slow.
I like me everywhere I go.
I like me on the inside, too,
for all I think and say and do.
Inside, outside, upside down,
from head to toe and all around,
I like it all! It all is me!
And me is all I want to be.
And I don't care in any way
what someone else my think or say.
I may be called a silly nut
or crazy cuckoo bird-so what?
I'm having too much fun, you see,
for anything to bother me!
Even when I look a mess,
I still don't like me any less,
'cause nothing in this world, you know,
can change what's deep inside, and so....
No matter if they stop and stare,
no person
ever
anywhere
can make me feel that what they see
is all there really is to me.
I'd still like me with fleas or warts,
or with a silly snout that snorts,
or knobby knees or hippos hips
or purple polka-dotted lips,
or beaver breath or stinky toes
or horns protruding from my nose,
or--yikes--with spikes all down my spine,
or hair that's like a porcupine.
I still would be the same, you see...
I like myself because I'm ME!

This is the perfect book for Eliza! She likes who she is and she has no problem being herself! I hope she carries that gift with her throughout her entire life and for every birthday. Happy 4th Birthday, Beautiful!

Caleb Turns 8!

Look at him grow! Caleb had quite the year between 7 and 8 years old. He played basketball, soccer, football, baseball, tennis and took swimming lessons too! He was the first in our family to get braces since he had a tooth growing out of the roof of his mouth and he played, played, played outside with his friends as much as he possibly could. He is starting to get such a funny sense of humor and I'm often surprised by his quick whit and charm! (I think he gets it from me.) Just yesterday, his friend asked him who was funnier, his friend or his mom. He didn't skip a beat and he said me! It was one of my proudest moments. HAHA. If you could believe it, Caleb is even funnier than me and has no problem being the center of attention at home, school or church. Even though he gets a little silly and hyper at the worst times (right before bed and church), he is still a wonderful student and friend and son too. Sometimes when I'm mad, he makes me laugh and then I get more mad that he wouldn't let me stay mad. If you want to get Caleb at his best, one on one time is key. And if you really want to get him talking, you'll need to lay by him in his bed at night for the best of conversations.

Caleb is quite inquisitive and smart and often asks questions I don't know the answer to. He also often asks questions that he knows the answers to and he gets a good eye roll from me. If Caleb doesn't get his way, WATCH OUT! If plans change, make sure to give him a good warning and if it's cold outside during one of his games, make sure you put a hand warmer under his baseball hat. Also make sure to add about 5 layers of clothing because he's got no fat insulation on that little body of his! If Caleb came with a manual, it would say, "Handle with care. Be patient. Give him quality time. Notice and tell him all the good things. Admire with love." He is so special and I just love him so much!

We always start off our birthdays with presents to make sure the day starts great!...
It is GREAT TO BE 8! Caleb got a new bat, baseball glove, gum and money...

Oh and a new Utes hat too!...
He also had a fun friend birthday party and he picked to go swimming at the rec center. Krew Smith, Luke Pearson, Jack Couch, Michael Swift, Eli Ferrer and Ryder Singley. They had a great time and loved that girls were chasing them around the pool the entire time. I didn't get a picture there because I was on high alert with those little swimmers...
Caleb and his best friend, Ryder Singley. I should do a post all about these two. They are planning out how Claire should marry Ryder's older brother, Boston, so that they can be brothers. I told Ryder that if he married any of Caleb's sisters, that would work too. He didn't like that idea as much. HAHAHA! Ryder is left-handed and one time Caleb said to me, "Ryder is the only lefty in our family!" They are hilarious together and make the most perfect little friends and Ryder really does feel more like family.
 Crazy crew on Cal's birthday...
And Grandma Dodo stopped by to give Caleb his very own brand new set of scriptures for his 8th birthday...
He's the best son in the whole wide world!

California Family Vacation

Our January was a whirlwind! With Mike's work, we try to pack in the big trips in January because that's when he has the most time off. So, this year it worked out that we got 2 vacations in one month! Lucky us!

Just arrived to the airport and ready to head to California!...
Janie and Ivy sat across the isle from me. Ivy did not hold still the entire time. Good thing it was a short flight!...
So excited and feeling like big kids in their own row...
 Dad had Eliza duty...
We started our trip in Newport Beach, California and spent a couple of days there. We relaxed the night we got there and first thing in the morning(8am), Mike took the kids swimming.
Janie wore these overalls the last time we went to California...

We headed to Laguna Beach and stopped for some pizza...
And then we played all day at the beach. It could not have been more perfect! We need to spend more time on the beach. OH HAPPY DAY is right!...
Ivy didn't skip a beat. She dove right into that sand...
Poor sweet Janie was starting to get really sick, but she still made the most of it...
 Claire loved it...
So did Caleb. It was hard to get them to hold still for a picture...

 My loves...
 Happy parents enjoying the sunshine...

What a beautiful day in January!...
We enjoyed a few interesting taxi drivers and left our stroller at the hotel in Newport before we realized it in Anaheim. Our crazy taxi driver saved our day and we started off our amazing few days at Disney the next morning...

The Disney crew...
 We ran into Moana first!...
The jungle ride. We laughed at Curt laughing...

It's just cute to see a dad holding his little girl's hand...
 Cute...
 Before...
 After...
 This Storm Trooper was hilarious...
 Teacups!...
Grandpa was so cute with Eliza on this ride...

 Princesses...

 Um, yum...

Grandpa was so sweet and spoiled Ivy with these bubbles that she absolutely loved!...
 Cutest guy all tuckered out...

Claire really wanted a picture of herself here...

 And that's a wrap!
Best Disney crew around. When can we go back?!?!...
Sigh. It was just the perfect vacation. No, it really was.
